Review

Mallard was an experimental group with two of Captain Beefheart's Magic Band sidemen: Bill Harkleroad (Zoot Horn Rollo) and Mark Boston (Rockette Morton) as well as John Thomas, George Draggota and Sam Galpin on vocals.

The album sounds nothing like Beefheart, a simple description might be country blues with a jazz fusion background. Sam Galpin's roughly textured but laid back vocal mixes well with the complex arrangements and quality musicianship. It is interesting to hear a dobro and other country touches in this context. The ballad "Harvest" is a standout track. - Recommended for those interested in progressive music.
