The Cates Gang are the Cate Brothers before they became a sophisticated studio act. On this record you get the essence of the band in a way that you might in a small bar or nightclub. This is real, raw, hard-edged "stuff"; the type of material Sam and Dave did for Stax and Atlantic in the mid 1960's. The bonus is the adeptness of the musicianship. These guys should have had a wider audience. If you like AWB, Sam and Dave or Otis Redding get this.
